Welcome to The Lockdown Creative
We are a group of Undergraduate English students in the midst of publishing our own poetry anthology in response to the current COVID-19 crisis and lockdown.
Throughout the Business of Books module we have recently taken, our group's primary interest has been exploring the effect COVID-19 has had on the publishing sector and the public. On the one hand, fiction book sales have increased by over a third in the UK as people searched for escapsim, which highlights the importance of the creative sector in the UK. Yet, the publishing industry is still under immense pressure due to the COVID-19 crisis: they have struggled to advertise newly released novels, postponed book releases, and many small publishers fear closure.
The inspiration behind The Lockdown Creative is the surge of creativity amongst the general public. Our Social Media timelines are full of creative new ventures; people learning to sew, tie-dye and finally starting to write the novel they never had the time to write. There is no time like the present and we hope to inspire people to engage with their creativity and refelct on contemporary events.
The Lockdown Creative is our own creative venture that gives people a platform to share the poetry they have written in light of the COVID-19. We are looking for submissions that encapsulate sentiments such as fear, boredom and loneliness. But we also are particularly interested in engaging with the immense compassion and community cohesion the pandemic has evoked. We want to hear your voices; your fears, your confusion, your hopes. We want you to write.
Thank you for taking the time to explore The Lockdown Creative, and we hope to see your submissions soon!
